In Astier de Villatte's Alexandre collection, deceptively simple forms are moulded and shaped by the hands of artisans in Paris. The defining feature of this series is the three-dimensional motif added to each piece. It's modelled after an aged imprint of founder Benoît's brother, Alexandre, which was found in the attic of his father, Pierre Carron. On this mug, it appears between the handle, emerging from the glazed clay as if it's breaking free.
