The family estate, located in the picturesque medieval village of Riquewihr, spans prime sites, with most vineyards classified as Grand Cru. Alsace, known as France’s second driest wine region, benefits from a long, slow ripening season that encourages deep, aromatic flavours. The Hugel family pioneered late-harvest winemaking techniques, including Sélection de Grains Nobles, which involves hand-picking overripe, botrytised grapes to enhance the wine’s depth and complexity. A bold expression of the rich and spicy character of Gewurztraminer, this 2002 vintage comes from Hugel's oldest plots in the Grand Cru Sporen vineyard. With intense notes of orange blossom, honey and rich oriental spices, it offers an opulent yet balanced sip, with exceptional ageing potential of up to 40 years. Its luscious sweetness pairs wonderfully with savoury, full-bodied dishes such as blue cheeses, foie gras, roast duck or terrines.
