The winery was founded in 1901 by John and Rafael Reynolds, grandsons of Thomas Reynolds, who emigrated to Portugal in 1824 and founded Thomas Reynolds & Son. The company exported Port wine, olive oil, wool, honey, and cork to England, while the Mouchao estate was dedicated to the production of cork and olive oil. In addition to excellent wines, the Mouchao estate also produces brandies, fortified wines, honey, and olive oil of the highest quality. The oil from the Mouchão estate is made with Galega olives, the oldest and most representative variety of the Alentejo region. The olives come from the estate's centuries-old olive groves, which are responsibly managed with full respect for nature and biodiversity.
