Located in the Ribera del Duero region, Vega Sicilia one of Spain's most prestigious wine estates. It was founded in 1864 by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves, who planted cuttings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec from Bordeaux together with Spain’s signature variety, Tempranillo. Now under the ownership of the Álvarez family, the estate adopts a meticulous approach, both in the vineyard and the winery. It produces three wines: Único, Único Reserva Especial, and Valbuena 5º. Valbuena 5º is considered the winery's purest expression, blending 94% Tempranillo and 6% Merlot and aged for a total of five years both in barrel and bottle. Complex and aromatic, with juicy ripe black fruits, cedar, balsamic, and subtle spice. It’s elegant and long, with integrated tannins and balanced acidity. Try it with lamb, beef, or earthy mushroom risottos.
